
Sam is a frequent speaker and author of books and papers on international transactions, international taxation, joint ventures and technology transfers. His practice has included corporate organization/reorganization, joint ventures, acquisitions/mergers, industrial and energy infrastructure projects, international tax planning, technology transfers, import/export, customs/anti-dumping, marketing and distribution, trade-marks and immigration. Sam has been Canadian counsel to a host of multi-national corporations and ventures including, among others: Canpotex (Canada), Amway, Federal Express, Mars Inc., Raytheon, Milton Bradley, Estee Lauder, Cray, Leco, Federal Mogul, Emerson Electric (United States) Embraer (Brazil) Fujitsu, Mitsubishi Electric, Tomy Toys, Sokkia, Daifuku (Japan) Minmetals (China) Tech Mahindra, Synechron (India).

He began his career in oil and gas law with McLeod Dixon (now Norton Rose), then established and led, with others, the Canadian presence of global law firm Baker & McKenzie for more than 25 years. Sam is a senior lawyer in the field of domestic and international commercial transactions. Sam is also a Fellow of the Patent and Trademark Institute of Canada. Sam obtained BA and LLB Degrees from the University of Alberta and a Master of Laws Degree in international law from Stanford University where he was also a Teaching Fellow.
